  • Q: What skin types would benefit from SkinMedica® skin care products?
    A: SkinMedica products are formulated to be used on all skin types and skin conditions, including the most sensitive skin. We recommend you always ask your physician which products and regimen will best address your skin type and concerns.

  • Q: What is "photo-damage?"
    A: Photo-damage to the skin is caused by exposure to harmful ultra-violet light. Photo-damage can be either acute, as in sunburn, or more commonly, chronic, due to gradual changes in the skin caused by an accumulation of sun exposure throughout one's life. Sun exposure is by far the most influential environmental factor affecting aging of the skin.

  • Q: What are the causes of wrinkles?
    A: Lines and wrinkles are caused by degenerative changes in the proteins of the skin's infrastructure such as loss of stored antioxidants and reduction in collagen. Wrinkles also are caused by movement of the skin, resulting in creases over time.

  • Q: What are the causes of age spots?
    A: Age spots are also known as sun spots, liver spots (they are unrelated to the liver or liver function), or lentigines. Age spots are associated with cumulative sun exposure. Sun spots mostly appear in areas consistently exposed to sunlight, such as the backs of the hands, the forearms, neck, chest, and face. The pigment producing cells in the skin (melanocytes) are stimulated to produce more pigment when exposed to ultraviolet rays.

  • Q: What does healthy skin look like?
    A: The characteristics of healthy skin are:

    Skin texture is even, soft and smooth

    The skin is reasonably firm to the touch

    The skin has good elasticity

    No red or dark patches on the skin and the skin color is fairly even

    Pores are small to medium in size

    No blemishes

    In general the skin neither feels too oily nor too dry, and has a sufficient amount of moisture

    Overall the skin looks vibrant and healthy

  • Q: How can I maintain healthy skin?
    A: Using sun protection and appropriate skin care products containing antioxidants and anti-aging ingredients (such as SkinMedica TNS Recover Complex, Vitamin C Complex and Retinol Complex) is essential in maintaining healthy skin.

  • Q: Which product(s) should I use after having a procedure?
    A: Always ask your physician, but generally our post-procedure regimen recommendation is Sensitive Skin Cleanser, TNS Recovery Complex, TNS Ceramide Treatment Cream and Environmental Defense Sunscreen SPF30+.

  • Q: Are your products safe to use if I have Rosacea?
    A: Rosacea is considered a medical condition. Skin care regimens for patients diagnosed with rosecea should be left to a physician's discretion. We recommend consulting your physician to learn what SkinMedica products are best for you.

  • Q: Are your products safe to use while pregnant? Or while lactating?
    A: We have not done any product testing on pregnant or nursing mothers. We recommend you consult your physician before using any SkinMedica products during pregnancy or while breast feeding.

  • Q: Do you recommend refrigerating your products to maintain the quality?
    A: No, it is not necessary to refrigerate our products. SkinMedica skin care products can be stored at room temperature.

  • Q: Do you test your products on animals?
    A: No, SkinMedica does not do any skin care product testing on animals.

Distribution of acne lesions is generally limited to areas with well-developed sebaceous glands including the face, back, chest, and upper arms. Characteristics of acne include open comedones (black heads), closed comedones (white heads), papules, pustules (inflamed pimples), and cysts.

    • Q: As a woman, should I change my skin care routine when I am premenstrual or menstruating?
      A: It is not necessary to change your skin care routine before or during your menstrual cycle, unless your skin condition dramatically changes and becomes too oily, too dry or acneic.     • Q: Should I change my skin care routine in reaction to a change in seasons?

    Q: What skin type is this product best for?
    A: Rejuvenative Toner is appropriate for normal to oily, normal to dry and dry skin types.

    Q: When should I use this product in my daily skin care routine?
    A: Rejuvenative Toner should be applied following cleansing.

    Q: How to apply?
    A: After cleansing, pat the face to remove excess moisture. Apply toner to a cotton ball and gently smooth over face and neck. Do not rinse off.

    Q: How long to use?
    A: A good toner should be used daily as part of your skin care routine.

    Q: What is special about this product?
    A: Rejuvenative Toner contains a special combination of alpha-hydroxy acids, green tea, willow bark, witch hazel and chamomilla recutita to remove dead skin cells and residue, refine pores and prepare the skin for treatment products.

    Key Ingredients

    Lactic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Citric Acid, and Malic Acid → Each is a natural, alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) derived from bilberry extract, sugar cane extract, sugar maple extract, and citrus extracts that provides mild exfoliation to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.   • Purifying Foaming Wash

    Q: What skin type is this product best for?
    A: Purifying Foaming Wash is appropriate for oily, congested and/or acne-prone skin.

    Q: When should I use this product in my daily skin care routine?
    A: Purifying Foaming Wash should be the first product used morning and evening in your skin care routine.

    Q: How to apply?
    A: Moisten skin with lukewarm water. Dispense two full pumps of Purifying Foaming Wash into the palm of your hands, apply to face and gently massage over the entire face and neck area for one minute. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry. Avoid contact with eyes. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.

    A: A good cleanser is a crucial part of your daily skin care routine.

    Q: What is special about this product?
    A: Purifying Foaming Wash has 2% salicylic acid and other botanical ingredients to remove excess oil and impurities while helping to control acne breakouts.

    A: Acne Treatment Lotion is appropriate for oily, congested and/or acne-prone skin.

    Q: When should I use this product in my daily skin care routine?
    A: The Acne Treatment Lotion should be applied daily after cleansing with Purifying Foaming Wash and toning with Purifying Toner.

    Q: Where to apply?
    A: Apply a thin layer to the entire face and neck or any other affected areas.

    Q: How long to use?
    A: Acne Treatment Lotion should be used as long as needed to help maintain blemish free, healthy skin.

    Q: What is special about this product?
    A: Acne Treatment Lotion is formulated with an advance microparticle delivery system containing 2.5% benzoyl peroxide to reduce acne and oils.

    Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% → An antibacterial agent commonly used in acne treatments. It works to kill the P. acnes bacteria that cause acne and reduce inflammation. It also slows the formation of whiteheads and blackheads.

  • TNS Essential Serum®

    Q: What skin type is this product best for?
    A: TNS Essential Serum® is appropriate for all skin types.

    Q: When should I use this product in my daily skin care routine?
    A: TNS Essential Serum should be applied after cleansing and toning the skin and prior to applying any other products, including sunscreens. Note: TNS Recovery Complex is in one chamber of the TNS Essential Serum pump, you do not need to incorporate TNS Recovery Complex in your daily routine.

    Q: How to apply?
    A: Before the first application lightly tap the top of the pump several times in the palm of your hand. Remove the cap and press on the very center of the pump to dispense both of the products onto the back of your hand and blend them together before applying.

    Q: Where to apply?
    A: Apply to your face, neck and décolleté.

    Q: How long to use?
    A: You should use TNS Essential Serum as long as you wish to improve the overall condition of your skin. Our clinical studies show that initial results occur in 30 days with best results occurring in 90 days.  For best results, you should use twice daily and incorporate as part of your daily skin care routine.

    A: Facial Cleanser is appropriate for all skin types except highly sensitive skin.

    Q: How do I choose a cleanser that is appropriate for my skin type?
    A: The ultimate goal of skin cleansing is to thoroughly remove makeup, dirt, bacteria, pollution, excess oil and dead skin cells. An ideal cleanser does this without irritating, damaging or disrupting the skin and the skin's natural protective moisture barrier. SkinMedica offers 3 different cleansers: Sensitive Skin Cleanser, Facial Cleanser and Acne Treatment Foaming Wash, which address various skin conditions, including dryness, skin sensitivity, oiliness or acne condition. SkinMedica cleansers are detergent free, and contain hydrating emollients, botanical extracts and soothing agents to cleanse the skin without dehydration.

    A: The SkinMedica Acne System is ideal for oily, congested and/or acne-prone skin.

    Q: How long to use?
    A: The SkinMedica Acne System should be used as a daily part of your skin care routine.

    Q: What is special about this System?
    A: The Purifying Foaming Wash and Purifying Foaming Toner contain 2% salicylic acid while the Acne Treatment Lotion has 2.5% benzoyl peroxide formulated with an advanced microparticle delivery system to fight acne with minimal irritation.

    Acne Treatment Lotion

    • Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% → An antibacterial agent commonly used in acne treatments. It functions by forcing an oxidant (peroxide) into pilosebaceous follicle where it releases oxygen, thereby diminishing the P. acne population. This reduces the level of toxic, corrosive fatty acids and inflammation activity.

    Q: What skin type is this product best for?
